Here are a few overall questions to ask as you examine each vaccine:
- What disease(s) is this vaccine intended to prevent?
- How well does it prevent the disease?
- Does it stop transmission?
- What ingredients are in this vaccine?
- What are the known side effects of this vaccine?
- How common is this disease?
- How can this disease be prevented?
- What symptoms would my child have if they had this disease and what risks/complications are there?
- What treatment would they need if they got this disease?
- How does the risk of the illness compare to the risk of the vaccine?
